Construction of oil refinery ongoing, says director

The construction of a mini oil refinery in Tharjath , Unity State has started, an official in the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining has said.

Speaking to Radio Miraya over the weekend, the director general in the ministry Mohamed Lino Benjamin said the construction work is expected to take 12 to 13 months.

"We were supposed to officially launch the start of the construction. That does not mean the construction is not ongoing. It is already going on," said Lino.

The director also said preparations are underway to construct another mini oil refinery in Faluj, Upper Nile State.

"There are two things that are happening. One is the preparation of the site where the refineries are going to be constructed.  The second is that the fabrication of the components of the refinery is taking place in a company in the United States," said Lino.

Lino said the oil refineries will provide fuel for local consumption.
