A Director in the Ministry of Commerce has been arrested over allegations that he has been issuing fake trading licenses.
The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment, Garang Diing Akuong confirms the arrest, but has not disclosed the director's name.
Akuong says three other Ministry officials who are believed to have been involved in the scam have been suspended from office.
Speaking to Radio Miraya, Akuong said the director has been issuing fake trade licenses to businesspeople and depositing the money collected onto his personal bank account.
The Minister said the scam discovered as a result of the centralization of the taxation system which has improved the channels of tax collection.
