State officials arrested over fraud allegations

(28th June 2013) - Police in Northern Bar el Ghazal State have arrested 3 officials in the State Ministry of Physical Infrastructure  for using outdated financial documents to secure money from the public.

The State Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Lt. Col. Deng Piol Manyet, said the suspects allegedly used outdated financial forms from Sudan designed for revenue collection.

Director Piol stated that two of the suspects have been released after investigation and one remained in detention awaiting a court hearing.

He revealed that the CID identified nine falsified receipts allegedly used in collection of SSP 10,000.

"The receipts were issued to many people, we detected 9 receipts only operational in 2009,” he said.

South Sudan issued new financial forms for revenue collection after independence in July 2011.
